Redwater ISD is pleased to announce Ashley McCarter as the new high school counselor. She comes to Redwater from Melissa High School, where she was a science teacher and coach for the past four years.
McCarter graduated from Liberty-Eylau High School in 2006 and then earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Ark. She received her Masters in School Counseling in 2019 from Southeastern State Oklahoma University.
Prior to Melissa High School, her teaching and coaching experience includes one year at Melissa Middle School and two years at both Wylie ISD and Hughes Springs ISD.
Through her career through teaching and coaching, she said she worked to develop positive rapports with her students and student-athletes. McCarter knew she wanted to be a counselor when she recently had the opportunity to help a young lady who was struggling with some difficult decisions.
“Every day I get to teach and interact with teenagers,” McCarter said. “It is unbelievable the weight some of them carry every single day. The feeling I felt after helping [students] is amazing and I decided that if I could help more kids on a regular basis, then that is exactly what I wanted to do.”
McCarter and her husband, Clay, welcomed their first child earlier this month.
